Starting in the spring of 2019, Thomas Gottschalk will appear on BR television with a new literary format called Gottschalk liest? Four times a year, he will talk with guests from different Bavarian regions about their new publications and other cultural topics. In this way, BR wants to offer a new approach to the topic of literature.

Gottschalk’s closeness to literature is evident not only from his studies of German and history as a teacher, but also from the books that have accompanied him throughout his life. His 2008 talk show Aus gegebenem Anlass with literature pope Marcel Reich-Ranicki is unforgettable, as he encouraged Gottschalk to try the more serious subject. Gottschalk’s 2017 appearance on Literarisches Quartett, when he discussed Peter Handke with impressive expertise, is also remembered.
