Aufschneider – based on an idea by Josef Hader, co-written with David Schalko – tells the story of the life and work of Dr Fuhrmann, the head of pathology at a municipal hospital. We experience classic hospital stories, but from an unusual perspective: from a quirky vantage point below, from the pathology department, whose smell you can’t shake off even after work.

Fuhrmann is constantly at cross purposes with ‘those up there’, the golf-playing gods in white. As, in fact, with most things in his life. It is not easy to get on with someone who has a very unusual relationship with death, and for whom cancer is ‘beautiful, like a psychedelic painting from the 1960s…’.
