David Schalko,\u00a0author, director and managing partner of Superfilm, was born in 1973.<\/p>

He became known in Austria with the program without a name, which established a completely new genre on television starting in 2002. This was followed by numerous award-winning formats as part of ORF Donnerstag Nacht, such as Willkommen \u00d6sterreich (since 2007).<\/p>

In the German-speaking world, Schalko is considered the most style-defining television maker of his generation.<\/p>

His most important fictional film works include Aufschneider (\u00d6 2010) with Josef Hader, the mockumentary Das Wunder von Wien (\u00d6 2008), and the feature film Wie man leben soll (\u00d6 2011) based on a novel by Thomas Glavinic.<\/p>

Schalko made his international TV breakthrough with the award-winning mini-series Braunschlag (\u00d6 2012), which became the most successful series in Austria in 20 years and ran alongside renowned HBO and BBC productions in the “10 most important works worldwide” category at the Cologne Conference, among others.<\/p>

Schalko’s second series Altes Geld (\u00d6 2015) attracted high international attention and was also awarded at the 13th Sichuan TV Festival in Chengdu 2015, among others.<\/p>

In 2018, Schalko adapted Fritz Lang’s classic 1931 film M – Eine Stadt sucht einen M\u00f6rder, co-writing the screenplay with Evi Romen.<\/p>

The six-part series celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale 2019.<\/p>

As a novelist, he made a name for himself with the novel Wei\u00dfe Nacht (Jung&Jung Verlag, 2009), among others, against which J\u00f6rg Haider’s aide Stefan Petzner filed a lawsuit. The trial was followed internationally with great attention.<\/p>
